Especially if you have any of the following conditions.
Barretts Esophagus
..."The treatment of Barrett’s esophagus is similar
to the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, namely, lifestyle
changes in conjunction with the use of medications that will decrease
acid production by the stomach. Simple lifestyle measures should
be employed by all patients with reflux. The most important of these
is to avoid late meals. The patient should also avoid foods that
cause an increase in symptoms."... (excerpt from The Cleveland
Clinic Website)
Acid Reflux caused by GERD
..."Heartburn is caused by acid reflux, or GERD -- gastroesophageal
reflux disease. Acid reflux happens when the muscle between the
stomach and the esophagus gets weak or relaxes at the wrong time.
This lets the contents of the stomach, including acid, splash up
into the esophagus. The esophagus doesn't have the same kind of
protective coating as the stomach, so stomach acids burn it."...
Allergies
..."A food allergy occurs when your immune system responds
defensively to a specific food protein that is not harmful to the
body."...
..."Which Foods Most Often Cause Allergic Reactions?
There are six foods that cause 90% of food allergies in children
- milk, eggs, peanuts, wheat, soy, and tree nuts (such as walnuts,
pecans, and almonds).
In adults, 90% of food allergies are caused by peanuts, tree nuts,
fish, and shellfish. "... (excerpt from Web MD article)
Celiac Sprue
"...Celiac sprue is not an allergy. It is a genetic, inheritable
immunologic disease which interferes with the digestion process.
It is also known as celiac disease. When a celiac person eats foods
that contain gluten, the immune system responds by damaging the
villi in the small intestine. Gluten can be found in wheat, rye,
barley, and possibly oats."...(excerpt from about.com)
A word from the chef
Our recipes are not meant to be a cure all. The recipes represent
a step in the right direction to reduce acid reaction, reduce fat,
reduce sodium, reduce calories, and increase fiber. Our life style
changed along with our eating habits. Our daily routine has been
altered with a regular exercise program, not smoking, eating only
two meals each day with higher fiber content and foods higher in
Omega-3.
